Where is the Rose Cottage located?

The Rose Cottage is located on the grounds of the Chautauqua Institution, a gated resort community conveniently located next to Bestor Plaza at the corner of Miller and Roberts Avenues. We’re only a half block from the Amphitheater, and the Starbucks Coffee gazebo is right across the street.

When is the Chautauqua summer season?

The Chautauqua summer season begins the last Saturday in June and ends on the last Saturday in August. (Exact dates are set by the Chautauqua Institution: chq.org)

How do you rent your suites at the Rose Cottage?

We rent by the week from Saturday to Saturday during the Chautauqua season. (During the off season—Labor Day through the last Friday in June—we rent nightly). As you plan your arrival and departure dates, please keep our seasonal policies in mind.*

How do I get in and out of the Chautauqua Institute grounds?

A gate pass (and a parking pass if you drive in)  are required during the Chautauqua Institution season. Guests are required to purchase a gate pass for each person in your party for the length of your stay.  (Fees apply. Please contact the Chautauqua Institution website for gate and parking ticket information at www.chq.org). During the off season (Labor Day through the last Friday in June), we rent nightly, and no gate pass or parking fees are required.

Does the Rose Cottage provide parking for its guests?

Sorry, we do not provide parking. Parking in front of the Rose Cottage is only permitted for guests unloading or loading their baggage at check-in and check-out times. For information on how to purchase a parking pass, please visit ww.chq.org.

What is the Rose Cottage's smoking policy?

We are a non-smoking establishment. Smoking is not permitted in any suite, on the porches, in hallways or any area of the Cottage. (PLEASE NOTE You will be asked to vacate the premises immediately and a $500.00 cleaning fee will be charged if you violate this policy.)

Can I drive on the grounds of the Chautauqua Institute?

Vehicles are allowed on the grounds for guest and baggage drop-off only during the summer season. To save time on arrival, you can make arrangements for gate passes prior to your visit by calling the Institution’s Front Gate at (716) 357-6200.

What shopping is available?

The Chautauqua Institution is a unique and wonderful environment. (Translation: No nearby strip mall.) There are a limited number of stores and services on the grounds
and nearby.

Where do people go to eat?

Each Rose Cottage suite has a kitchen fully-equipped with both cooking and dining utensils. You provide your own food. There are also several restaurants within walking distance and outside the Institute’s gates. Grocery stores are within 5 miles.

Where do I go if I get sick or injured during my stay?

There is a doctors office directly across from the Rose Cottage at 21 Roberts Avenue. They take walk-ins and even do house calls. The nearest major medical facility is in Westfield, NY, approximately 1/2 hour away. The nearest pharmacy is in Mayville, NY (5 miles). 

What forms of payment does the Rose Cottage accept?

We accept checks, money orders, and all major credit cards (AMEX, VISA, MasterCard and Discover).

Is the The Rose Cottage handicapped-accessible?

Sorry, we are not handicapped-accessible. 

What are your check-in and check-out times?

Normal check-in time is Saturday at 4:00 pm. Normal check-out time is Saturday at 10:00am. NOTE: Exceptions apply during the first and last weeks of the Chautauqua season. First week of season: Check in day is Friday, not Saturday. Last week of the season: Check out day is Sunday, not Saturday.  

Do you allow pets?

We love pets, but sadly we cannot accommodate them here. However, we can recommend a place nearby to board your pets. Please call us for a recommendation.
